The Supreme Court of Texas and the Court of Criminal Appeals changed some of the Rules of Appellate Procedure effective March 1, 2024. https://www.txcourts.gov/media/1457982/249003.pdf
- Since electronic filing is the norm, fewer copies of paper appellate documents have to be filed. Paper copies these days are generally filed by prison inmates without lawyers who don’t have access to the Internet.
- Electronically filed documents in civil matters may take advantage of the automatic computer-generated certificates of service rather than having to add their own certificates of service.
- Petitions for review and responses to them– requests for the Texas Supreme Court to take up a case and oppositions to them– all have to include sections addressing the vital question of whether or not the high court should take the case.
